Rome’s Pizza is a single-location, down-home pizzeria located West of I-10 on De Zavala road in San Antonio. It’s in an ethnic strip mall sporting several eclectic restaurants, so it feels right at home in its little area. It’s a staple in the San Antonio pizza/Italian segment, and as we found out, for very good reason!

Preface: As you will see in the following review, our experience here on the date visited was mixed, and in some important ways, less-than-stellar. Based on information gathered on other review sites, this seems to be a complete fluke. While we have shared our experience in all its stark detail, we suspect that on any other day things would have been very different and will give an updated review on a later date.
Situated just off of Highway 281 in the Galleria Oaks shopping center just outside of Hollywood Park is Purple Garlic Italian Cafe, featuring many classical Italian offerings. While relatively new to the scene, the restaurant has cemented its spot in the Italian food segment of the San Antonio dining scene.

Situated on lower Blanco road in San Antonio’s unofficially named Beacon Hill district, SoHill cafe is a small Italian-American bistro located in a small strip mall with a few other restaurants. While appearing rather drab and uninviting from the outside, good things await those who walk into their doors!

Pasta Bella Restaurant is a modest, few-frills Italian restaurant asserting its rightful place on the Fredericksburg strip. Locally-owned and family-friendly, they pride themselves on thinking outside the usual Italian box, offering incredibly tasty gluten-free options and even low-carb fare!

Po Po Trattoria Pizzeria is a locally-owned 4-location Italian restaurant chain that began as a franchise of the national Luciano Neighborhood Pizzeria chain. Re-branded in Fall-ish of 2021, the owners broke away from the Luciano franchise to pursue an expanded, differentiated menu and make a restaurant all their own. Continue reading
